About the Role

We are seeking a Scientific Officer for a one-year maternity cover (January–December 2026). The Scientific Officer will play a key role in supporting IFPA’s scientific activities and the IFPA Conference, ensuring that all assigned tasks are completed efficiently and progress is reported regularly to the Conference Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional with experience in research and scientific coordination, to contribute to a meaningful global initiative.


Key Responsibilities

Scientific Program Coordination

  • Contribute to the coordination of the IFPA Conference scientific program, including program planning and committee support.
  • Provide frequent updates to the Conference Manager to ensure timely and effective program development and delivery.
  • Support the Scientific Executive Committee (SEC), ensuring planning milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Undertake additional tasks related to scientific program planning and communicate progress to the organizing committee.
  • Oversee timelines and engagement of the program planning process with regular reporting.  

Committee Coordination and Reporting

  • Collaborate with the Conference Facilitator and Conference Manager to deliver quarterly reports on committee progress.
  • Maintain communication with the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and SEC, including invitations, updates, and collection of consent forms required for ACCME applications.
  • Ensure reports and documents from the SEC are properly stored and shared with the Executive Director for board meetings.
  • Follow up on logistics and support needs for the SEC and ensure members are well-prepared ahead of the conference (e.g., travel arrangements).  

Abstract and Speaker Management

  • Update the SEC and organizing committee on the abstract process beginning in September, including the selection of oral presentations.
  • Provide updates on faculty invitations and speaker availability during the selection process.
  • Coordinate with the communications team to ensure updates on scientific program planning are effectively shared.  

Support for Young Researchers and Allied Health Professionals

  • A key component for the 2027 IFPA Conference is increasing visibility and engagement of young researchers and allied health professionals, including nurse specialists.
  • Support the planning of sessions, workshops, and initiatives to ensure these groups are actively represented.
  • Continue discussions with the British Dermatology Nursing Group and Swedish nursing associations to develop nurse specialist workshops.
  • Collaborate with the funding team to explore potential grants supporting young researcher participation or pre-symposium activities.  

General Support

  • Monitor scientific plan deliverables and assist the conference team in ensuring milestones are achieved.
  • Maintain strong collaboration with the communications, policy, and logistics teams to ensure alignment across all conference components.

The role will also include contributing to scientific projects, studies, and member support initiatives, undertaken in close collaboration with the Scientific Project Lead and the Science Team.

About You

  • Academic degree in medicine, life sciences, public health, research or related field.
  • Experience in scientific coordination, research management, or academic event organization.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and spoken English (additional languages are an asset).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and thrive in an international, cross-functional environment.
