World Psoriasis Day 2021 - Germany

More attention by new communication channels

Every year on October 29^th is World Psoriasis Day. On this day, patient organizations and physicians all over the world turn to the public to raise awareness of the chronic inflammatory skin and joint disease. In Germany there is a long tradition of cooperation between the German Psoriasis Association (DPB), the professional association of German dermatologists (BVDD), the German Dermatological Society (DDG) and the nationwide psoriasis doctors network (PsoNet) to draw attention on the Psoriasis on that day. In 2021 the alliance organized an awareness week. From October 25^th to 29^th patients were offered the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information about psoriasis free of charge - with telephone advice, telemedical offers and lectures.

To inform about the program press releases in print media were published and for the first time complemented by communication and advertisement via social networks. During the information week, numerous posts with different messages were released via Instagram and Facebook. The topics ranged from the announcement of the individual offers to helpful information about the disease and personal messages from those who are affected.

For example Vanessa Junk from Braunschweig spoke openly about her illness and Wiebke Junge from Hamburg sent her message from the point of view of a relative. Many thousands of users on Facebook and Instagram have seen the posts.

The result was a significantly increased use of the advice and information offers during the campaign week compared to the previous year. The DPB's online seminar on nutrition and psoriasis with the oecotrophologist and nutritionist Merrit Arndt from Hamburg was fully booked, as was the traditional information event on World Psoriasis Day 2021. It is held annually by the network Hautnetz Hamburg under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Matthias Augustin.
