Psoriatic disease is an immune-mediated chronic disease commonly recognized by the presence of lesions in the skin. But this disease is more than skin deep and approximately 30 % of people living with psoriatic disease also see their joints and tendons affected by it, known as psoriatic arthritis.
People living with psoriatic disease also have an increased risk of developing other diseases, or comorbidities, that include anxiety and depression, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, and cardiovascular disease. Most of these comorbidities are interconnected and are considered risk factors for the development of other comorbidities.
In this report, we dive deeper into the relationship between psoriatic disease and cardiovascular disease. This relationship has been extensively demonstrated. We look at the science behind the link between the two diseases and provide recommendations for reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases in people with psoriatic disease.
